Last Minute News From OGS Conference 2016

Thanks to the great support from OGS branches and their members, Conference 2016, “Genealogy on the Cutting Edge”, will be at or near record attendance. DON’T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR LETTER OF CONFIRMATION TO FACILITATE YOUR CHECK-IN AT THE REGISTRATION DESK.
Even if you haven’t registered yet, there may still be time to sign up to attend on June 3-5. Online registrations for workshops, tours and lectures will be accepted, space permitting, until May 27 and possibly later. Just check online at http://www.ogs.on.ca/conference. As always Conference will also accommodate walk-ins for any or all of the weekend. Just bring your chequebook or your Visa or MasterCard. Sorry, no cash. The venue is the International Plaza Hotel, 655 Dixon Road, Toronto. (Driving and public transit directions are available on the website.)
Anyone attending an OGS Conference for the first time is encouraged to participate in the First-Timers’ Gathering on Friday, June 3 at 4:30 pm. You’ll receive helpful advice from old-timers (who were once first-timers themselves) and have an opportunity to socialize with your fellow rookies. A similar event last year in Barrie was a big hit, and we look forward to a similar success.
The Genetic Genealogy Special Interest Group of OGS Toronto Branch is interested in hearing from any OGS members who are intermediate to advanced students of genetic genealogy and who might be interested in attending a special seminar on endogamy in DNA research. This event, hosted in affiliation with the Conference, will also be held Friday, June 3 at 4:30 pm. Admission is by invitation only. To inquire, please contact Elizabeth Kaegi at ekaegi@gmail.com.
Attendees at Conference 2016 will have an opportunity to “Ask an Expert” – 15 minutes to seek advice on a problem.  Those interested have been asked to send their queries in advance to OCAPG, which is administering the program.  Some of these queries pertain to local Ontario records or to the area a SIG covers.  Can you help?  If so, please send an e-mail describing your particular expertise to fraser@dunford.ca.
Last but by no means least... Pretty much everything you do at Conference 2016—from planning your schedule to finding your way around—has become a whole lot more cutting-edge. The enthusiastically reviewed Conference Mobile App is live and available to you to download now to your smartphone or tablet free of charge. Go ahead. Set up your profile. Search for friends.
