Come learn the basic steps for launching your family history experience. Learn from Nancy Trimble as she gives you advice on interviewing your family, searching attics, recording & organizing what you find, Internet searching and offline help, and groups. Learn to avoid some common pitfalls in your quest, as she shares some hard-learned lessons. 
Nancy Trimble, PLCGS has been doing genealogy since she was a teenager. She earned her diploma in Canadian Records in 2004 and is currently the Chair of the Durham Region Branch, Ontario Ancestors.

Free Genealogy Websites - April 7th Meeting



There are more genealogy websites out there besides the subscription databases - and quite a few of them are free!

Come to our meeting as some of our members demonstrate a few of their favourites. A list of some of these sites has been uploaded to our Facebook Group in our member Stacy's post.

The meeting is held at 7:30 pm in the Oshawa Public Library Auditorium (basement), 65 Bagot Street, Oshawa, 1 block south of the City Hall.

Our meetings are free and visitors are always welcome. Come and bring a friend!

1871 Canada Census

Launch of "Census of Canada, 1871"

Ottawa, August 30, 2011— The 1871 census marked the first regularly scheduled collection of national statistics, and Library and Archives Canada is now pleased to make its results available online. Researchers can access digitized images of original census returns featuring the name, age, country or province of birth, nationality, religion, and occupation of Canada's residents at the time.
The information covers the four provinces that were part of the Dominion of Canada in 1871: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec.
