Our Family History - Organized and in Print

Sharon is the founder of TIMELINES Genealogical Research.  She is a professional genealogical researcher with 28 years experience and the author of two books -- Researching Canadian Vital Statistic Records and Researching Canadian Land Records.  She has also designed curricula and serves as an instructor and is also the Head of the Canadian Department for the National Institute of Genealogical Studies Online Courses, University of Toronto.  As well, she has been an occasional guest lecturer at the University of Toronto, giving on-site instruction and tours of the Archives of Ontario, Toronto Reference Library and North York Public Library.  The Library Archives Canada is also on this list of tours.

One of her recent projects, closely related to the topic at our meeting, is the part she played in the preparation of former Cobourg Mayor Angus Read's new book "Don't Tell Me It Can't Be Done".

Originally built as The McQuay House in 1882-83, this building operated as a hotel until 1964. An early advertisement notes that it was built “with a view to supplying the best accommodations for the travelling public.” Known also as The Temperance House and The Brooklin House, it was purchased in 1967 by Branch 152 of the Royal Canadian Legion and reopened as a Legion hall in 1970.

Just Starting Genealogy?

The Durham Region Branch Ontario Genealogy Society is presenting a spring workshop series to help begin your search for ancestors.
There are three workshops. This is the first time the Branch will offer workshops at its office in Oshawa.  The workshops start at the absolute beginner level and increase in depth as the series continues.  There is limited enrolment to provide ample opportunity for attendee questions.  Enrol in one or two or ALL.  There are discounts for registering for a complete series and for OGS members.
