An Introduction to GEDmatch, with Mags Gaulden at Durham Branch's June Meeting

 

Join Durham Region Branch, Ontario Ancestors as Mags Gaulden presents “An Introduction to GEDmatch”.

We will talk about all the things you need to know before your sign-up, terms of service and privacy updates (changes in the last month!) and the things you can do once you are registered. It's all about uploading your DNA data and using the tools and analysis available to discover new DNA cousins and hopefully make exciting discoveries in your family tree.

Mags Gaulden is a Professional Genealogist and the founder of Grandma’s Genes in Ottawa. She is an international Genetic Genealogy lecturer, blogger and social media maven. She serves as admin of various Facebook groups including the ISOGG Facebook group. Mags' non-profit work includes Wiki-Tree and mito-YDNA.org

DNA Special Interest Group August Meeting

The DNA Special Interest Group Meeting will be held on Wed., August 16th at 7:30 pm in the Branch Office.

All are welcome and we will have our usual question and answer period.

Nancy will share her experience with the Lazarus project on GEDmatch.

DNA Special Interest Group meets Dec 21st!

The Durham Region Branch, Ontario Genealogical Society's DNA Special Interest Group meeting will be on Wednesday, December 21st at 7:30 p.m. It will be held in the Branch Office, found at the base of the NavCan tower, Stevenson Road, Oshawa (must come from Rossland Rd. There is no access from Taunton Rd). There is some construction occurring and part of our parking lot has been taken over, but there is still enough parking available.

Nancy will be live demonstrating how to take a file from FamilyTreeDNA and upload it to GEDmatch.

DNA Group Will Meet Through The Summer

The DNA Special Interest Group (DNA-SIG) of the Durham Region Branch will continue to meet on the 3rd Wednesday evening of the month at 7:30 pm throughout the summer.

The next meeting will be on July 20th and everyone is welcome. Discussion will continue on GEDmatch and the dashboards on the testing companies' websites.

The meetings are held at our office at 1000 Stevenson Rd. N. in Oshawa.

The focus will be on using the GEDmatch site. Karen will demonstrate her experiences with the site, and we will throw the meeting open to demonstrations of the site from any member who has experience.

Nancy will show a YouTube video that will help with understanding the GEDmatch experience.
